“Bye-bye routine, hello surprise!” was the new mantra of the Maison&Objet trade fair held from September 7thto 11th2018 at the Parc des Expositions, Paris Nord Villepinte. Thus the season proposed a potential desire for freshness and displayed a yearning to re-center on thefundamentals. But despite this wish for renewal, our teams discovered a mixed offer. Even though they were looking for surprises and novelties, our Home & Consumer Goods experts were not completely satisfied. A look back at the three days of the fair and a few of our experts’ favorite finds.

KEY TRENDSCRAFT ATTITUDE In the current movement of new craftsmen/designers, the idea of reconnecting to our deep nature with objects that have basic or ancestral aesthetics is a growing value in the home decoration world. Skills, from those using handmade techniques to 3-D printing, are emphasized, perpetuated or re-imagined. From textiles to floorings, from materials to objects, ochre colors, “natural” textures and mastered imperfections are enhanced. This confirms our Modern Archaicstheme in the ENVIRONMENTS & DESIGN SS20 trend book.

BAROQUE OPULENCE Echoing the Street Mythologyand Homo Univeralisthemes of the SS20 ENVRONMENTS & DESIGN trend book, the Decorator trend is still present and materialized through different expressions/aesthetics: -tradition reworked in an iconoclastic way: dishes with gold borders and typographic messages at Bitossi Home, a “hallucinatory” ceramic pot by Jonathan Adler. -the everyday is shown in a chic scenography with opulent decors, must-have velvets and refined colors (plum, blue, green, yellow ochre, …) and exotic or classic prints for expressive interiors such as Jakobsdals’ printed cushion or solids at Bolia or Notre Monde plus velvet and fringe at Dooq.

The dark stoneware is contained inside a fine border while the natural, subtle color range pays homage to the brand’s ancestral skills. A timeless collection, between modernity and authenticity.
